Kerala police suspended Civilian Police Officer (CPO) Anas PK, attached to Karimannoor Police Station, on Tuesday after an internal investigation found that he leaked details of RSS-BJP leaders to activists from the Islamist group SDPI. and the Popular Front of India. The times of India reported.
Anas’ phone number was found in the contact list of one of the defendants in the brutal assault on a bus driver named Madhusoodhan in Thodupuzha of the Idukki district. Madhusoodhan was attacked after the vehicle in which he was traveling with his children was stopped. He is said to have drawn the ire of Islamists by sharing a cartoon of Muhammad, whom Muslims consider their prophet.
Half a dozen SDPI activists were arrested on December 2 in the assault case.
The CPO was transferred to the Idukki headquarters. However, he has now been suspended from the police force after a detailed investigation.
A detailed police investigation established that one of the accused SDPI activists and CPO Anas were close friends for over 11 years. Anas is said to have shared information with his friend from police records.
